Jeffrey Epstein (January 20, 1953 - August 10, 2019) was an American financier and convicted sex offender. He cultivated relationships with powerful figures in politics, business, science, and entertainment over several decades.

In July 2019 he was arrested on federal sex trafficking charges by the SDNY. He died in federal custody at the Metropolitan Correctional Center on August 10, 2019. The medical examiner ruled his death a suicide by hanging.

Ghislaine Maxwell (born December 25, 1961) is a British socialite and the daughter of media mogul Robert Maxwell. Prosecutors described her as the primary recruiter, groomer, and facilitator of Epstein's abuse of minor girls.

Maxwell was arrested in July 2020. In December 2021 she was convicted by a federal jury on five counts including sex trafficking of a minor. In June 2022 she was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.
